CV
Robert Johnston

Robert Johnston established Robert Johnston Associates in 1991 after five years in partnership at Johnston and Munro, where some of the older projects on this website originated.

Since becoming self-employed in 1986 Robert Johnston has developed substantial experience in the design of housing and houses, conversion and rehabilitation of historic buildings and of commercial, hotel and leisure developments. Seven years (1979-86) at the multi-disciplinary practice of Gillespies provided experience of the design of buildings and development in historic and sensitive landscapes and an enduring belief that good architecture develops from careful analysis of the landscape and environment in which it is set.

Two years at the long-established Glasgow practice of Keppie Henderson provided a thorough grounding in the management of construction projects and experience in the design of health-care buildings.

Student experience includes periods in the architects departments of the former Scottish Special Housing Association (now Scottish Homes) and at the Scottish Development Department.

More recent career development seeks to apply over twenty years experience of construction to the fields of dispute resolution and arbitration. Since 1999 Robert Johnston has been an adjudicator on the R.I.A.S. list and in 2000 he became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
